Reflections:

Remembering:
I have done the tasks listed in the above table.

Understanding:
One of the major tasks I did during the week was to finalize the Analysis Report.  My team members have been generous to give their feedback for improving the document.  I, together with lead evaluator, used the feedback and edited the document accordingly.  It is so amazing to learn how much time it takes to edit a document.  Sometimes, you feel that editing a document takes more time than writing it.

Applying:
The skills I learned while editing the analysis report was helpful.  It gave me the opportunity to learn how cumulative feedback can improve a document.  Such skill can be transferred to different situations.  It can be used to get peer evaluation on any product I prepare in the future.

Analyzing:
The theme underneath the analysis report was assessing problem context followed by proposal of solution.  To assess the problem, we conducted context analysis, learner analysis, and performance analysis.  The final result of these analyses was proposal of solution in the form of instruction.  After that, we identified goals for the instruction followed by analysis of learning environment for the instruction.  Each part of the above analyses is linked to the next part in a logical relationship.

Evaluating:
The overall experience I had in finalizing the analysis report was rich.  I can see that my experience in the process is growing well.  My perception of the whole direction of the project is also evolving with time.

Creating:
The next step is to prepare a video presentation of the analysis report.  After the presentation, I will start the phase of content analysis, which is the next milestone for my role as an instructional designer.

Remembering:
I have done the tasks listed in the above table.

Understanding:
One of the major tasks I did during the week was to continue preparing Analysis Report for my team.  Amber (lead evaluator) and I prepared the document, shared it with other team members, and received feedback from them.  While preparing the analysis report, I worked with my project manager to obtain information from our client about learners and instructional needs of our client.  I also read the survey done regarding students and faculty of our client’s university in general.  The survey was made available to us through our project manager.  This helped me to identify learning goals for the instruction.

Applying:
The skills I learned while preparing analysis report will be helpful in my future activities of instructional design.  Analyzing learners’ characteristics, their performance, and the learning context is very important task for an instructional designer.  The other skill that I can use in the future is goal analysis.  While trying to identify learning goals for the instruction, I had to breakdown the content into components or parts.  This experience will also help me when I do content analysis for the project.

Analyzing:
In the process, I learned that goals cannot be completely written just once.  They are re-written again and again.  Sometimes, I had to combine together two goals, which I initially had thought they should be separated.  Ultimately, the overall cumulative message of the goals should be what the learners are going to perform after going through the instructional activities.

Evaluating:
The activities of preparing the analysis report are well done.  It was a teachable experience.  I also learned that this is a process that cannot be learned overnight.  I will keep growing as I get more experience.

Creating:
After finalizing the analysis report and presenting it, the next step for me is to prepare the Content Analysis document.  I will start from the goals identified in the analysis report and select specific instructional objectives.  Then, the instructional objectives will be used to prepare assessment tools and instructional strategies.

Reflections:

Remembering:
I have done the tasks listed in the above table.

Understanding:
Analysis was a very important task for me during the week.  Analysis helps to get to the details of a system of interest.  Analysis report (AR) is one of major components for our project.  As lead instructional designer I took my responsibility to prepare AR together with our team’s lead evaluator.  We have started drafting the report. I prepared some review questions and shared it to my team through Google Doc.  The questions are meant to collect data from our client.  The data would be used in AR.  In the process, I learnt that AR involves analysis of context, learner, performance, goal, and learning context.

Applying:
The skill of analysis can be applied to any new system needed to be studied, not only instructional systems.  The approach that I learnt from analysis report is emphasizing the importance of understanding a problem before choosing a solution.  Performing analysis is meant to help us understand the problem.  This approach can be applied in different contexts.  For instance, when I try to help the students I teach, I first spend time to understand their main problem, which is a form of making analysis.  After I understand their problem in detail, I look for possible solutions.

Analyzing:
During any analysis, you always try to study the major components and their relationships.  You also look into inputs and outputs of a system component. During training needs analysis, the components are learner, context, performance/job, goal, and learning context.  I learned that the instruction we are going to prepare is going to be consistent with the data we get about these components.

Evaluating:
The activities of the week were done well.  The analysis report, though, is not yet completed.  It will need more detail.  More information is needed about learner, performance and context analysis.  Hopefully, our client will provide more information about their needs.

Creating:
My next plan is to continue and finalize the analysis report for our project.  Together with lead evaluator.  I will present an overview of the report. The report will be in the form of screen cast.  It will be between 5 – 10 minutes.
